Upsite receives Innobooster support for a more accessible and precise approach to climate adaptation

Upsite has received an Innobooster grant from Innovation Fund Denmark to further develop the technical infrastructure behind a new digital solution for climate risks. The goal is to combine geodata, building data, and climate models so that climate risks can be identified on the individual property and translated into concrete climate adaptation measures.

Climate risk analyses of buildings are often a comprehensive and manual process today. Data comes from many different sources and is typically gathered by external consultants in reports and spreadsheets. This provides valuable knowledge about risk, but does not necessarily make it easier to decide what should be done in practice.

With support from Innovation Fund Denmark's Innobooster program, Upsite will develop a scalable data architecture that can integrate geodata, building data, and climate models. The purpose is to make it possible to identify and assess climate risks at both portfolio and building level and create a better basis for prioritizing concrete climate adaptation measures.

“The technical challenge is to build an infrastructure that does not just deliver data, but can understand the connection between a building's characteristics and the climate risks it is exposed to. This requires us to be able to integrate data sources that normally do not communicate with each other, with a precision that makes the results applicable in practice,” says Anne Larsen, CEO of Upsite.

On top of the technical infrastructure, AI-based features are being developed to make the results more applicable for the property owner. The solution must be able to handle large property portfolios while making it possible to go into detail with the individual building.

From climate risk to action

The ambition is to move the work with climate risk from static analysis to active decision support. Once a risk is identified, the property owner should be able to work further with relevant measures and prioritize the effort based on the building's specific conditions.

In this way, climate risk becomes part of the existing work with operations, maintenance, and investments, rather than a separate analysis that ends up in a report.

With the Innobooster support, Upsite can further develop the underlying technology and prepare the solution to handle climate risks across larger property portfolios.
