Upsite launches climate adaptation module: From climate risk to concrete action in property operations

Climate risk is no longer just an analysis or reporting topic. Property owners and managers are increasingly facing demands to document how risks are identified, prioritized, and managed. Many already have access to the necessary data but lack an operational tool to translate insights into concrete actions. This is precisely the challenge that Upsite's new climate adaptation module was developed to solve.

Why climate adaptation can no longer wait

Climate risks are not a future issue. Rising groundwater, more frequent storm surges, and intense cloudbursts are already affecting property operations, insurance terms, and access to financing.

DTU's most comprehensive national analysis to date from 2026 shows that flooding is expected to cost Denmark DKK 398 billion in direct damages (calculated in present value) over the next 100 years. 86 percent of the bill falls on privately owned assets. And waiting has a concrete price: if climate adaptation is postponed by 10 years, it will cost DKK 48 billion in unnecessary damages. If you wait 50 years, the loss accumulates to DKK 172 billion.

On top of this, there is regulatory pressure. CSRD and the EU Taxonomy already demand documented risk management, and lenders and investors are following suit.

From data to operation. How the climate adaptation module works

Where most climate analyses stop is precisely where we begin.

Screening across the entire portfolio

The module automatically retrieves data from public national sources such as BBR, the Danish Geodata Agency, and the Danish Climate Data Agency, providing a complete risk overview across the entire portfolio. You immediately see which properties are exposed, to what extent, and on which parameters, without manual data collection.

Detailed climate risk analysis at the property level

Once the portfolio overview is in place, you can go a level deeper. You can carry out detailed climate risk analyses on individual properties based on the acute climate risks identified as particularly relevant in Denmark due to national conditions, including storm surges, cloudbursts, and groundwater rise.

From analysis to task in the maintenance plan

Once the climate risk analysis is done, the real work begins, and this is where Upsite's other features come into play. With just a few clicks, adaptation measures are transformed into concrete tasks in the maintenance plan, can be assigned responsibility, and followed up on as an integrated part of operations. No static reports on the shelf, only actions in the platform.

The documentation is ready for use - for banks, insurance companies, and in CSRD and ESG reporting.

From insight to action: why we developed the climate adaptation module

In developing the climate adaptation module, we have had close dialogue with property owners, facility managers, and ESG consultants. The conversations quickly pointed to the same challenge: there is already extensive knowledge about climate risks, and many organizations have access to the necessary data. But once the analyses are completed, uncertainty often arises about the next step.

How do you prioritize the right efforts? Which properties should be handled first? Who is responsible for follow-up? And how do you ensure that climate adaptation becomes part of ongoing operations rather than a separate project?

These are precisely the questions that the climate adaptation module is developed to answer. The solution is built directly into Upsite, so working with climate risks can be linked to existing processes for planning, maintenance, and follow-up. The goal is to make the path from analysis to action shorter, more systematic, and easier to document.

"The dialogue with the industry showed early on that the challenge is not a lack of data or knowledge, but that the chain breaks when complex climate data needs to be translated into reality. That is exactly the task we have solved. We handle the data architecture andcalculations so that companies can easily use data to create real changes in daily operations"

— Anne Larsen, CEO, Upsite

Niels Brock: Climate adaptation as part of operations

Niels Brock is among the first to start using the module. As a self-insured organization with over 40,000 m² of buildings in the Inner City, they have long had climate adaptation on the ESG agenda. What was missing was a tool that made it manageable.

"We know very well that in five years we could face a major problem with groundwater. We can put that into the maintenance plan and move tasks around if necessary. Now we just do it on an informed basis."

— Claus Villumsen, Facility Manager, Niels Brock

Climate resilience becomes part of good property management

Climate risk is rapidly moving from being an analytical area to becoming an integrated part of good property management. Investors, lenders, insurance companies, and authorities are increasingly demanding that risks are identified, prioritized, and managed systematically.

For property owners, climate adaptation is therefore not just about protecting buildings from future events. It is also about being able to document risk management, make well-informed investment decisions, and strengthen the portfolio's long-term resilience.

With the climate adaptation module, climate risks become an active part of the decision-making basis. This allows organizations to create a comprehensive overview, prioritize efforts across the portfolio, and document the measures implemented.

"The property owners of the future are not those who ignore climate risks. They are those who actively manage them. With our new module, we give the real estate industry a concrete tool to do just that, and to document it to all relevant parties."

— Søren Schødt, Founder, Upsite
